Obese (March 2018 and before)

Not looking good.

Pot belly; Skinny Fat

Generally obese 90+kg and creeping up.

Despite being more conscious on ‘Healthy Foods’

I did not know I was pre-diabetic or diabetic.

Start of Uncontrollable Weight Loss

Diabetes went out of control and I began loosing weight excessively by the weeks.

But I did not know I was diabetic. That never crossed my mind.

I’ve always been mindful of healthy foods and kept e.g. Coke / Chicken Cutlets to once in a while (aka in moderation).

Unhealthy  Weight Loss & New Beginning

Not all weightloss is healthy. When you loose body fat and muscle, despite eating the whole day, something is really wrong.

My body started wasting away and I was soon reduced to sub-60kg. My bodyweight kept dropping by the week.

A new job in 2018 forced me to go for health screening. I discovered I had Diabetes. My A1C was 22!

Lifestyle Switch

I was put on Metformin and Insulin to manage my diabetes.

Insulin jabs made me gain some fat back, but mainly on the belly.

I took the pharmaceutical combo for a month and decided that was not the way to go.

Eventually I crafted my way out and got my health back without any medication. I have since been in remission. I got ‘fired’ by the hospital (aka discharged) because they no longer could sell me anymore drugs.

This photo was taken on my first day of bodyweights training. In an attempt to tone the body up as my post recovery regime.

I don’t wish to be under-muscled.

One year+ with just Bodyweight Workouts

Just body weights training (no weights; no gym) and a new way of eating for more than a year. I managed to get to my set bodyweight and looked more or less toned.

Healthier looking and fitter than the last time. I felt more energised than I was at my 20’s.  My blood sugar control remained good and normal.

Got my first Home Gym 2021

I thought it is time for more serious training and cut those fats. And show some abs.

For that I will need to get to 10-12% body fat.

With a new meal regime and a very basic home gym set up, I started training with weights 4th quarter of 2021 sticking faithfully to a training programme.

I wake up at 5am. And start training 5.30am to 6.30am. Before I head off work at 7am, I packed my breakfast & lunch, and packed my kids breakfast.

Meal prep became an essential part of my late noon and evening routine.

Realistic Expectations & Goals

Just by getting into a gym or lifting some weights need not necessarily mean you’ll end up looking like Arnold.

It’s damn bloody hard work & sweat to be Pro.

For me its all about health, fitness and personal well-being.

You are your own responsibilities.

The Fitness & Nutrition Journey Continues

Intentional Determination is key to success. This journey to health, diet, and fitness is going to stay. And I’ve seen results.

I’m my own experimentation and proof that whatever I do, works.

Pre-diabetes / diabetes in remission, weigh management and weight loss, body conditioning and body building. Food and nutrition to make all these happen.

Allow me to share with you my personal journey and how you can also benefit from it.
